About Us

Why We Built Stono Outdoor Living Co.

Like many companies, Stono Outdoor Living started with a simple project at home.

Our founder and president, Xavier Meier, set out to build an outdoor kitchen at his house in Charleston, South Carolina. Living near the coast, he knew the kitchen needed to handle humidity, salt air, and constant exposure to the elements. He also wanted something modern — clean lines, durable materials, and a design that would make the backyard a place people naturally gathered.

What he discovered instead was a frustrating process.

Most outdoor kitchens required hiring contractors, coordinating trades, and managing long construction timelines. Other options involved piecing together components from different suppliers or settling for products that weren’t truly designed to live outdoors long-term.

“There was no clear, straightforward path to building a great outdoor kitchen,” Xavier explains. “You either hired a contractor and hoped the project stayed on track, or you tried to piece something together yourself. Neither option felt like the right solution.”

That realization sparked an idea.

There had to be a better way to build an outdoor kitchen — one that combined thoughtful design, durable materials, and a simpler, more predictable process for homeowners.

That idea became Stono Outdoor Living.

Rethinking the Outdoor Kitchen

From the beginning, the goal wasn’t just to create outdoor kitchens.

It was to rethink how they’re designed, built, and delivered.

Traditional outdoor kitchen projects often involve months of planning, multiple contractors, and unpredictable construction timelines. The experience can quickly become overwhelming for homeowners who simply want a beautiful space to cook and gather outdoors.

Stono was created to simplify that process.

Our approach combines modern design, durable materials, and an online design platform that allows homeowners to plan their kitchen with clarity before anything is built.

The result is a smarter and more streamlined way to bring an outdoor kitchen to life.

Built in the South. Designed for Real Conditions.

Stono Outdoor Living is based in Charleston, South Carolina — a place where outdoor living is part of everyday life.

Our kitchens are fabricated in the American South and shipped nationwide, built with materials selected specifically to perform in outdoor environments. Every detail is designed to hold up to real conditions, from coastal humidity to intense summer heat.

Because when something is meant to live outside, it should be built for it.

The Kitchen as the Anchor

We believe the outdoor kitchen is more than just a place to cook.

It becomes the anchor of the backyard — the place where people gather, where meals turn into long conversations, and where ordinary evenings become memorable occasions.

That belief continues to guide everything we build.

Our goal has always been simple: create outdoor kitchens that make it easier for people to cook outside, gather with friends and family, and enjoy the spaces around their homes.

Because when the kitchen works the way it should, the backyard naturally becomes the place everyone wants to be.

The Stono Standard

Every Stono outdoor kitchen is designed with one purpose in mind — to create a space where people naturally gather.

Our kitchens are built to live outside, crafted with durable materials, and designed with clean architectural lines that anchor the backyard. From the first design conversation to the final installation, every decision is made with long-term performance and simplicity in mind.

Because building an outdoor kitchen shouldn’t feel like managing a construction project.

It should feel like creating the place where your friends and family want to spend time.

That belief defines everything we do at Stono Outdoor Living.
